On International Women's Day, Mossman invited a wide range of powerful and passionate women to Society restaurant in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD for a celebration of life and business.

Over the course of the luncheon, this group of female entrepreneurs took some time to share personal stories and discuss daily challenges, success, failure, resilience and the invaluable contributions of women in every sphere – from the workplace to the home, from local communities to the global stage.

Our Creative Director, Deanna Depetro included two of her closest friends who are the living embodiment of women who have demonstrated the ability to pivot into entirely new careers while embarking on the journey of motherhood. They, and the other attendees of this elegant event, are women who inspire us every day.

Whether you're refreshing your wardrobe or shopping for a special occasion, finding the best fit will ensure you look polished, confident and stylish. Choosing the correct fit not only flatters your natural silhouette, it leevates your entire look. Here are some essential guidelines on how to select clothing that fits perfectly, to make you look and feel your best.

understand your body shape

Before you can select clothes that fit well, it's crucial to understand your body shape. You may have heard of body shapes such as hourglass, apple, pear or rectangular - all of these have different characteristics that can impact how flattering a particular garment will be.

It's about optical illusions - understanding where to draw the eye and what areas you want to avoid highlighting.

HOURGLASSDown

With hips and shoulders similar sizes, and a smaller mid-section, look for clothing that draws attention to your narrowest part - your waist - to highlight your natural curves.

PEARDown

If you have hips that are wider than your shoulders, choose pieces that direct attention to your narrower upper body which fit snugly around your waist to give you a more balanced silhouette.

APPLEDown

For those that have a thicker torso with relatively narrow hips, thighs and shoulders, opt for clothing that skims the mid-section and draws eyes to your shoulders, decolletage or legs.

RECTANGLEDown

If you find little difference in yuour waist, hip and bust measurements, styles that visually create curves through details such as defined waistbands, ruching or tucks are your go-to styles.

measure yourself accurately

Accurate measurments are the foundation of a great fit. Measure your bust, waist and hips with a flexible tape measure, and compare it to the size chart provided. Don't forget that the size chart details body measurements, not garment dimensions. If you find you are in between sizes, select the size that gives you more room at the waist and hips for a more fitted item, or at the bust for more relaxed styles. A garment that is too tight will make you look bigger than you actually are.

use a fit tool

Mossman has paired with Wair, a fit recommendation platform that uses AI along with the world's largest database of body scans, product specifications, fit preferences and customer reviews to calculate your individual size recommendation for every product.

Simply click on the Size Calculator link on every product page, answer a few easy questions and Wair will formulate the size most likley to give you the perfect fit.

focus on quality over quantity

Invest in fewer, higher quality pieces that fit well and feel great, rather than a larger quantity of poorly fitting, uncomfortable clothes.

Quality garments tend to be designed with better proportions and more premium fabrics that maintain their shape and durability over time.

Mossman's products are made with careful attention to detail. High quality fabrics, fastenings and linings ensure a smooth and seamless finish and result in garments you love to wear over and over.
